Old Texaco Station Gets New Look

I’m sure you have noticed a bit of construction at the Texaco Station on Adams Ave the past couple of months. The old station is getting a remodel with the help from the La Grande Urban Renewal Agency. Gust and Karin Tsiatsos have started to convert the building into a center that will feature boutique ice cream, coffee and mercantile shops and more. In addition to its shops and courtyard, the place will feature meeting sites, including one enclosed in glass where the station’s gas pumps used to be.

The site, to be named The Local Station, is intended to be the showcase for the east end of downtown. “We want to create an experience for tourists and local residents in which they can do more than just buy a cup of coffee,” says Gust Tsiatsos. The Tsiatsos are also hoping to establish a relationship between Eastern Oregon University and The Local Station. They plan on inviting EOU to have activies and classes there.

The La Grande businessman is encouraged by the grant the URA approved and the supportive attitude its members have. “We think this will be a great addition,” Tsiatsos said, “and we are glad the URA does too.”
